If you are a technical person like me, or perhaps you just need legacy tools for things like government access, institutional applications, or just like to keep things static rather than changing them all the time… I am afraid I have bad news for you.
However, if I have your attention through the title, I DO have good news… at least temporarily.
So, we all kind of knew this was going to happen anyway, right? As soon as Edge came out as a product \”integrated\” into Windows 10, we had to know that eventually Internet Explorer would go away. This announcement finally puts a pin in the date. As of June 15, 2022, Microsoft will no longer support Internet Explorer. As the announcement states, \”…sites will need to be configured to open in Microsoft Edge using Internet Explorer (IE) mode\”
How to avoid being redirected:
Right, so as I was saying in the first paragraph: If you\’re like me… and you need or just want Internet Explorer for whatever reason (mine is a software requirement that won\’t work in compatibility mode), there is a workaround.
You can stop Internet Explorer from redirecting by changing a setting in Edge. Strange how that setting is in Edge…not the program that is redirecting. It\’s almost like they don\’t want you to find it. But I digress…
In any case, there is an article HERE that goes through the complete walkthrough, but if you hate instructions like me because figuring it out is such an adventure, the summary goes like this…
- Open Edge and go to Settings
2. Go to Default browser, Let Internet Explorer open sites… and select Never
It\’s really that easy… doing that will allow you to use Internet Exporer again without being redirected to Edge and all the eye-rolling and sighing that goes with it.
