Migrating from Google Mail to Microsoft 365

Cross-platform migrations are a little more complicated than a basic tenant move. But that doesn’t mean they have to be hard. With MigrationWiz it’s easy to move all components of Gmail – including mail, calendars, and contacts – to Microsoft 365. And with the latest in our video tutorial series, you can migrate like a pro after only 30 minutes of education.
Mark, our migration expert, is in command of the MigrationWiz console again, showing the sequence of steps that will move your workload without disruption or complication. Use the video as a training module or as a brush-up before you start your project.
What you’ll learn in this video
In order to migrate Gmail to Microsoft 365, you’ll need to first do some prep at both the source and the destination. Learn the steps and where to find critical information so you don’t have to hunt around. This video uses live Gmail and Microsoft 365 accounts to demonstrate a migration, including:
Preparing the source. You’ll first need to do some work on the Google side in order to allow access to the data. You’ll add the correct APIs, then set up and establish the scope of the service account. Finally, you’ll see how to turn on admin rights.
Setting up the project. With the MigrationWiz console it’s easy to create a new project, then add the source and destination.
Configuring the destination tenant. On the Microsoft 365 side, you’ll learn how to register the application, adjust settings, apply API permissions, and set up application impersonation using PowerShell.
Executing the migration. Before clicking “migrate,” you’ll see where and how to put in Advanced Options, add items, apply licenses, and verify credentials. Then, watch as the migration happens right before your eyes. Mark will also show you what to do if the mailboxes you’re moving contain large amounts of data.
Handy hints from an expert
In this video you’ll get the information you need to complete a successful Gmail to Microsoft 365 migration, including how to use BitTitan Help Desk articles every step of the way. These guides are updated frequently to make sure they have the most current information. For many actions, you’re encouraged to simply cut and paste commands.

The following issues have been addressed:
Single recovery mode – Users were experiencing a situation in which Exchange was entering import single recovery mode when throttling was detected. This issue was fixed by extending the wait time to avoid EWS dropping into single recovery mode.
Dropped messages – To avoid having to execute multiple migration passes in order to get missing data, MigrationWiz will now capture dropped messaged from AMR job queue.
Identify and improve logging – Users were finding that the manifest object count provided after the AMR call was incomplete. MigrationWiz now compares the root object count API to the AMR job manifest to confirm accuracy.
Bogged down memory – We’ve instituted a new memory release strategy to address ‘Queued’ and ‘Very Slow’ migrations at our US Datacenter.

Navigating the MigrationWiz Console

The MigrationWiz console is the command center for all your migrations. If you’re new to MigrationWiz, or if you’ve only used it for a single migration type, a quick tour around the console will give you the tools to perform migrations with more confidence. Our newest video tutorial provides a valuable overview of the console.
In this tutorial, a BitTitan expert walks you through all the steps using a mail migration as an example—from setting up the project to post-migration.
What you’ll learn in this video
With a single sign-in you’ll have access to all your migration projects—even if you have multiple customers. The starting dashboard shows each project’s status and an overview of your available licenses. Your tour of the MigrationWiz console includes the following:

Getting started: How to select the project type and create a new project. You’ll then see how to add customers as well as source and destination information.
Adding items to the project: Different ways of adding items to be moved include quick add, bulk add, and autodiscover. Find out which method is advised depending on the quantity of users and data.
Kicking off your migration: You’ll verify credentials before the migration begins, then review your current MigrationWiz licenses, apply them to the project, and purchase additional licenses as needed.
Testing your setup: You’re advised to do a trial migration before moving to the real thing. You’ll see how to run a test on a single user to make sure you’ve got everything set up correctly.
Executing the migration: Learn how to schedule a pre-stage migration, and when this step makes sense in order to speed your final cut-over and minimize user disruption. Finally, you’ll see how to schedule the final migration for any time that’s convenient for you and your customer.
After the migration: You’ll get information on how to address errors, re-set items as needed, and even configure Outlook.

You’ll use your MigrationWiz console to manage all different types of migrations. Since MigrationWiz handles a wide variety of sources, destinations, and data, there’s no need to get a different tool for different migrations.
This new video, Navigating the MigrationWiz Console, is a great place to start if you or someone on your team is new to MigrationWiz. Our tutorial library now includes half a dozen topics on video that you can watch any time to prepare for a specific migration or to expand your knowledge.
